Moana Weir has recently been appointed as the new Local Jobs First Commissioner to champion local businesses and workers getting roles in the state’s big infrastructure, manufacturing, and services projects. Ms Weir replaces the inaugural Commissioner Don Matthews, who retired in 2021.
As an experienced lawyer and executive, Ms Weir brings a wealth of knowledge to the role of Local Jobs First Commissioner. She has been a senior officer of ASX-listed companies, including SEEK and digital property business REA Group, and an executive at Bupa. She also currently chairs the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.
The Local Jobs First Commissioner works closely with industry and across government to:
- advocate on behalf of Victorian small and medium-sized enterprises
- promote employment of Victorian apprentices, trainees, and cadets on government construction projects
- oversee compliance with local content and job commitments.
