The recently built Joan Kirner Hospital is a $200 million development, transforming Sunshine Hospital into a leading paediatric and maternal health facility.
This new facility will provide twenty labour delivery rooms, thirty-nine special care cots, sixty-four women’s inpatient beds, thirty-two children’s inpatient beds, four operating theatres and additional outpatient clinics.
This will enable more women and families in Melbourne’s West to give birth and access children’s services closer to home.
A Local Jobs First project, this project has generated great opportunities for local Victorian businesses.
The Local Jobs First Policy supports Victorian businesses and workers by ensuring that small and medium size businesses are given a fair opportunity to participate in small and large government projects – creating job opportunities for Victorians.
More than thirty Victorian businesses have contributed to this project since construction began in September 2016.

As Victoria’s advocate for local content and industry, Don Matthews has been working in collaboration with industry and government agencies to give small to medium sized businesses an opportunity to participate on government projects.
