The statutory officer for Local Jobs First
The Local Jobs First Commissioner works to deliver long lasting economic and social benefits for all Victorians by maximising opportunities for local industry and workers in Government procurement.
The Commissioner advocates on behalf of Victorian SMEs, as well as promoting the employment of apprentices, trainees and cadets on government projects. The Commissioner also oversees compliance of local content and job commitments entered into as part of the contractual arrangements for project delivery.
The Commissioner is an independent statutory officer whose role is established under the Local Jobs First Act 2003 (the Act). The Act sets out the Commissioner’s functions and powers which include Local Jobs First related advocacy, engagement, facilitation, compliance and enforcement responsibilities.
