Local Jobs First supports Victorian businesses and workers by ensuring that small and medium size enterprises are given a full and fair opportunity to compete for both large and small government contracts helping to create opportunities including for apprentices, trainees and cadets.
All Victorian Government projects with a value of $1 million or more in regional Victoria or $3 million or more in metropolitan Melbourne or for statewide activities must apply Local Jobs First.
Each year, the government has hundreds of goods, services and construction projects that are delivered by local businesses and workers.
Government tenders are advertised through many different channels, so you should ensure that you are registered with and monitor relevant government tender websites. Business Victoria has some tips on finding out about government contracts going to market.
With all projects valued at $50 million or above automatically classified as Strategic Projects, as well as other projects agreed by government, more opportunities are now available to local industry and workers to contribute to high value goods, services and construction projects.
There are also specific opportunities for local steel and uniform and PPE businesses.
The Victorian Government publishes the Local Jobs First Strategic Projects Forward Plan which lists current and upcoming projects, including set local content requirements. It provides industry with early notification of projects and the opportunity for businesses to register to supply into these projects.
