It has no doubt been a very different working year for the Commissioner’s office and many other industries across the board as the advent of COVID-19 disrupted our normal working patterns.
As we adjusted to the new working norms, one thing did not change and that was our ongoing commitment to support Victoria’s local industry. This includes creating ongoing employment opportunities for apprentices, trainees and cadets whilst supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Our efforts to advocate for local industry continue as we work towards creating ongoing opportunities for Victorian SMEs in government procurement during these difficult times.
Now more than ever it is important we continue to engage with and work together with local businesses and key stakeholders to support the delivery of the Local Jobs First policy generating opportunities for local industry in what are unprecedented times.
Collaboration across the different sectors and businesses in the supply chains has always been and will continue to be a vital component in the implementation and success of Local Jobs First.
As Victoria’s inaugural Local Jobs First Commissioner, I am committed to ensuring SMEs, apprentices, cadets, contractors and all Victorian workers have a fair and equal opportunity to participate in government procurement and look forward to working with you in the near future.
